Travel and Venue Information
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - HOST CITY OF THE BATTLE OF APPALACHIA!
Clarksburg, West Virginia, is in the North Central part of the State. It is: two hours south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two hours north of Charleston, West Virginia; three hours east of Columbus, Ohio; and four hours west of Washington, D.C. Clarksburg sits at the crossroads of two major highways: Interstate 79 and U.S. Route 50. The city is served by the North Central West Virginia Regional Airport in Bridgeport (CKB), 6 miles from the venue. For more information on Clarksburg, check out www.cityofclarksburgwv.com
The Appalachian chain runs from Maine to Georgia but West Virginia is the only State which is covered by the Appalachian Mountains -- so welcome to the Battle of Appalachia 2012! We had a great time last year at the first BOA - if you were part of it, join us again and bring a friend. If you couldn't make BOA 2011, don't miss this year's event for some great competition and fun.
THE VENUE
Monroe Conference Building, Clarksburg Baptist Church - 501 W. Pike Street, Clarksburg
DIRECTIONS FROM INTERSTATE 79:
-
Exit I-79 at Clarksburg-Bridgeport exit and turn West onto U.S. Route 50.
-
Travel about 3 miles to the Second Street exit.
-
Circle under the parking garage, go straight, get in the right lane and turn right at Pike Street, which is one-way.
-
Get in the left lane and travel three blocks.
-
Church is on the corner of 6th and Pike Streets, just across from the U.S. Post Office.
-
PARKING: A large parking lot is available on the left just prior to reaching the church. NOTE: Most of this lot is metered because though owned by the church, it is leased to the City for Mon-Fri parking. The meters may be bagged for BOA 2012 but if not, you may park in a metered spot without paying.
-
WALKING: The Monroe Conference Building is an easy walk from this point, on the other side of the church from the parking lot. Walk across 6th St. toward the church but walk past the church on the Pike St. side (Post Office will be across the street to your right).
-
You will see the covered driveway entrance on the back side of the church; this is the Monroe Conference Center.
-
Enter the doors; the competition room is inside, just to the right.
DIRECTIONS FROM U.S. ROUTE 50:
-
Exit U.S. Route 50 at Chestnut St.
-
Turn right onto Chestnut St.
-
Go through one stoplight
-
At the second light (Huntington Bank on left, Go Mart straight ahead) turn left onto Main St. (TAKE CARE here, since Chestnut St. dog-legs and traffic comes forward at an angle in the direction you will be turning; you must yield to this traffic which is coming "straight.") Main St. is one-way.
-
Stay in the left lane
-
Turn left at the next light, which is 6th St.
-
Church is on the left, free PARKING is available in the lot on the right. (See note above about parking meters.) Note: A few parking spaces also may be available directly beyond the Monroe Building's covered driveway entrance. (Some are marked for Church Staff but will be available for BOA 2012 participants.)
